NPP Is Now Called Nanas People Party Says Abass Osabutey

Mr. Abass Osabutey, a member of the government communication team, has expressed his disgust at happenings within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), saying as a so-called “Apostles of Democracy” party, what is happening within it, simply does not augur well.

He retorted that the name should change from New Patriotic Party to Nana’s People Party, adding that today if one does not belong to the camp of the flag bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, or is not his errand boy or “Nana Nipa,” that person is penciled for “elimination.”

Abass noted that recent happenings in the opposition NPP do not only confirm the beginning of a collapsing party but also affirm a state of fiefdom, belonging to its flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Abass, who was sharing his thoughts on UTV last Saturday as a panelist, said “at any material moment when it’s the will of God, a political party may become the government of the day, so your utterances and doings should be irreproachable, so that Ghanaians can see that indeed, it is ready for government.”

However, he pointed out that in the “Nana’s People party” there is discerning opinion, as such people who express their opinion are described as “infidels.”

Abass’s concerns come on the heels of the many internecine conflicts within the NPP that have seen the party suffer huge public backlash over the manner’ “it is handling its internal politics.

Apart from the party findings it difficult to come to terms with its numerous internal issues, reckless utterances of tribal bigotry, and the seeming battle for control of the soul of the NPP, between the Nana Addo camp and the Paul Afoko, National Chairman and Kwabena Agyapong, General Secretary, who are perceived to belong to Kufuor’s camp, has indeed become the dominant problems that have entangled the elephant party lately.

One particular member who has gathered the courage to air his views, Dr. Kobina Arthur Kennedy, has come under severe attack in the party most of the time.

Only last week, Arthur Kennedy fired back after people, including one Dr. Amoako Baah, a political science lecturer, and an alleged NPP sympathizer called for his expulsion in the party.

Dr. Baah was quoted as saying “all that he is doing shows that he is against Nana Akufo Addo and if he is against the flag bearer then he is against the party. He does not care what happens to the party.

The Political Science lecturer of KNUST said “They should expel him from the party. It does not matter the so-called Alan camp, Kufuor camp, he is a cancer in the party that must be removed.”

But in his response, Arthur Kennedy said “I have not marched to my party headquarters with guns and cutlasses to attack my elected party leaders nor organized others to do so. I have never threatened to physically assault my party leaders.”

He continued “I have never uttered an ethnically divisive remark that could cause my party an election. I have never called the entire membership of my party “fools” I have never kept party supplies in my house to be sold for myself while party workers lacked material for the party’s work. Personally, I have never used or sold illegal drugs I do not even smoke.”

Arthur Kennedy added “I have contributed a considerable amount of my time, my treasure and my energy to the well-being of my party. Why would anyone want to expel me when others who have committed all these infractions are members of the NPP in good standing?

“Is this because I come from the wrong family or ethnic group? Is this because I went to the wrong schools? Arthur Kennedy asked sarcastically.
