Confusion Rocks Bortianor/Amanfrom NPP ...As Aspirant Fights Constituency Chairman

Tension is brewing within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bortianor/Amanfrom Constituency in the Greater Accra Region over the upcoming primaries, as an Aspirant is said to be up in arms with the Constituency Chairman over an alleged machinations to prevent the former from contesting the Parliamentary primaries.

This development has generated controversy among the leadership of the party at the constituency as well as the aspiring candidates.

According to a directive from the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party that, all constituencies along the coast must be contested by indigenes, but one Rev Nii Adjetey Larbie, is allegedly being denied the chance to contest the primaries.

The race which began with six contestants, saw four being disqualified leaving Rev Nii Adjetey Larbie and another aspirant who is not an indigene of the area.

However, plans are said to be underway to sabotage Rev. Nii Adjetey Larbie's chances as according to a source, the constituency Chairman demanded he paid the GH¢10,000.00 filing fee but was unable to pay outright.

The Chairman and the vetting committee, according to the source, asked Rev Nii Adjetey Larbie to go and come back later during the vetting process and make the full payment.

The other aspirant who is said to have the executive in his pocket was alleged not to have even gone through the vetting process.

Unconfirmed information gathered has it that Rev Nii Adjetey Larbie's name would not appear on the ballot paper which invariably mean he is out of the contest.

He is therefore pointing accusing fingers at the Chairman for orchestrating an agenda against him and for disregarding the NEC of the party.

Supporters of Rev Nii Adjetey Larbie who spoke to this paper, are up in arms against the chairman and have threatened to vote “skirt and blouse” should their favorite be denied the right to contest.  “If they scheme to kick him out, we would vote skirt and blouse but if contests and losses fairly, then we will support the elected candidate”, the supporters warned.
