President Donates Food Items To Ho Leper Village

President John Dramani Mahama, on Monday donated assorted food items to inmates of the Schoouhoven Cured Lepers Village at the outskirts of Ho.

The items included 20 bags of rice, 10 gallons of cooking oil, two bags of beans, five bags of gari, five bags of corn,  and four cartons of fish.

Mrs Dzifa Aku Attivor, Minister of Transport, presented the items  on behalf of the President.

She told the inmates that  their calls for support were conveyed to the President who arranged for the items to be speedily delivered, while he found time himself later to personally associate with them.

Indications given by managers were that, the village had run out of food items, necessitating the kitchen which provides a meal a day for inmates to close for  10 days.

The Schoouhoven Cured Leper Village has 120 inmates.

President Mahama was at the Weija  Leprosarium recently where he  counseled the public against stigmatizing people who had been afflicted by leprosy.

Mrs Ativor has a long-standing relationship with the Ho-Leper Community, visiting them periodically to chat and offer them gifts.
