Sefwi Rocked By Ritual Murders

Irate youth at Sefwi Boako, in the Sefwi Wiawso municipality, clashed with the police yesterday, over three ritual murders in the area.

The incident happened when the security men attempted to restore order, after the body of a little girl who was allegedly murdered, was found in the area.

The girl, according to a source, was allegedly murdered on her way to fetch water from a stream in the town.

Amid the confusion, three policemen got injured, as the angry mob pelted them with stones and sachet water.

The windscreen of the Police Nissan Navara vehicle, was shattered.

As at 3:24 p.m., the road leading to Boako had been blocked by the angry youth.

The Ghanaian Times gathered that the irate youth attempted to lynch two suspects believed to have murdered a lunatic in the town last week.

In their fit of anger, the youth stormed the chief’s palace where the two suspects were being given protection.

The matter later degenerated into clashes as the youth tried to force the chief to release the ‘fugitives’ to them.

Briefing The Ghanaian Times, the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Victor Abrokwa, explained that last Monday, a lunatic, from Sefwi Asawinso, but living at Sefwi Boako, was found dead with his two hands and other parts chopped off. This heightened the suspicion that he was murdered.

The body of the man was deposited at the mortuary, with the police waiting for the family to identify it.

Supt. Abrokwa said a watchman was also slashed with a machete in the head, at about 11: 30 p.m.   last Wednesday, but he managed to escape and ran to a colleague watchman who took him to the Sefwi Asafo Hospital, but he died the following day.

Said Supt. Abrokwa “the prime issue is that they want us to release the two suspects for them to be lynched, we will not allow that. We must maintain order. We are monitoring the situation and adopting strategies to deal with it.”
