Real CASH Behind NPA 28 Pesewas Increment Monthly; Petrol Produces GH33,600,000 & Diesel GH44,800,000

In an attempt to convince Ghanaians to accept the fuel price increment, the Public Relations Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Yaro Kasambata said the authority should be applauded for ONLY adding 28 Pesewas to the existing price of the petroleum products.

Yaro Kasambata gave the statistics of the fuel consumption in Ghana monthly. He revealed on Okay Fm’ s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show that with petrol alone, Ghanaians consume 120 million litres every month while diesel consumption is 160 million litres.

Per this statistics available, Peacefmonline.com decided to calculate and analyze the real cash that the 28 Pesewas will be transformed into the coffers of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) or better still into the purse of the Ghana government from Ghanaians.

According to the stats, Petrol consumption monthly is = 120 million litres and the Price change = 28p and the change percentage = 9%

Price change in Cedis will be- 100p = 1 Cedi and so in Cedi equivalent, the price change = GH¢0.28. If Ghanaians in 30 days consume 120 million litres of Petrol, the amount Ghanaians consume on DAILY basis is 4 million litres if you divide 120 million litres by the 30 days and with the price change as GH¢ 0.28 cedi per litre, on DAILY basis Ghanaians pay GH¢1,120,000.

With the above figure, this means that every MONTH Ghanaians are paying GH¢33,600,000 on Petrol consumption.

Again per this stats, Diesel consumption monthly = 160 million litres and the Price change = 28p and the Percentage Change = 9%.

Price change in Cedi will be 100p = 1 Cedi and so in Cedi equivalent, the Price change = GH¢0.28. If Ghanaians in 30 days consume 160 million litres of Diesel, the amount Ghanaians consume on DAILY basis is 5,333,333.33 if you divide 160 million litres by the 30 days and with the price change as GH¢0.28 cedi per litre, on DAILY basis Ghanaians pay GH¢1,493,333.33.

With this calculation, this means that every MONTH Ghanaians are paying GH¢44,800,000 on Diesel consumption.

This break down can further be analyzed to know how much money Ghanaians are paying on Petrol and Diesel annually coupled with the economic challenge which has engulf the country.

Taking from the NPA Public Relations Officer, Yaro Kasambata’s comment that the 28 pesewas is insignificant to buy anything in the country maybe right but its accumulation is huge money which can turn life around in the country.
