The Upper East Regional Minister James Tiigah has called on residents in the area to be tolerant in order for peace to prevail in the country.

The Upper East Regional Minister made these comments at the funeral of the late Upper East Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who died after being attacked with acid during the week. 

According to James Tiigah, the only way the country can grow is if the views and opinions of everyone are tolerated, whatever their political or ethnic leanings.

“If we want to move this country forward, we have to be able to tolerate each other. We have to understand that we may come from different mothers, from different colours but the growth of the country is paramount,” James Tiigah said.

Speaking to the mourners, Mr Tiigah added: “There is one thing that I have learnt and that is with this unfortunate incident has brought something to us to take home. As I look far and wide there is nothing written on any face that shows that person is NPP or NDC. We all stand as brothers and sisters and if there is anything that we can learn from Adam’s death, that should be it.”

The Police have so far arrested one person in connection with the attack but there are increasing agitations from youths who have threatened to take matters into their own hands.

The Minister however, called for calm in the region and across the country as the police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack on the Chairman which led to his death.

“I ask for calm in the Upper East Region, calm in the nation and calm so that our security people can do their work properly, Mr. Tiigah stated.
