NPP Elders To Calm The Storm In Party

A former Minister in the erstwhile President Kufuor administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has hinted of a move by some leading members of the party to intervene in the ongoing internal brouhaha between some national executives of the party.

Mr. Sampson Kwaku Boafo, a former Ashanti Regional Minister and ex-Member of Parliament (MP) for Subin, says plans are in place for some leading members to engage all feuding parties and ensure that sanity is restored in the party. Though S.K. Boafo, who also served as a Minister for Chieftaincy and Culture, downplayed the effect of the so-called internal wrangling on the electoral fortunes of the party, nonetheless said there was the need to ensure coherence and unity within the rank and file.

Speaking on Angel FM yesterday, Boafo said he had already been in touch with a colleague former minister, Kwame Addo Kufuor, and others to resolve all differences and ensure a united front for the party. He said it was very sad that at a point in time when every Ghanaian was looking up to the NPP to rescue the country from the economic hardships which the NDC administration had plunged the country into, the party would allow little misunderstandings to divide its front.

“There is no need for the party to engage in these little skirmishes at the expense of building a unified foundation towards the 2016 elections; Ghanaians are looking up to us, and we must not disappoint them, ” he said. The opposition party has, for the past few weeks, been in the news over reports of alleged power play between some members of the national leadership of the party.

In a related development, supporters of the New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti Region yesterday received news of the attack and subsequent death of the Upper East Regional Chairman of the party, Mr. Mahama Adams, with deep shock and regret.
Supporters of the party were left petrified by the news, with most of them sobbing and wailing at the loss of the chairman.

The sudden death of the Upper East Regional Chairman was announced on Thursday morning while he was receiving medical treatment, following an acid attack the night earlier at his Bolgatanga residence. Some supporters, who were deeply troubled, called into various radio stations in the city to express their worry at the sad news, while other leading members shared memories of their association with the late chairman.

A founding member of the party, Mr. George Ayisi Boateng, described the demise of the late chairman as a great shock to him and the entire family of the party. He said the late Mr. Mahama Adams was one individual who was very passionate about the success of the NPP, and worked assiduously towards ensuring victory in next year’s elections.

Mr. Ayisi Boateng described the attack as barbaric and insane, stressing that the death of Mr. Mahama Adams should “unite the party in our quest to seek justice and honour his memory.” According to the NPP leading member, supporters of the party must engage in deep soul searching and reflect on the need for unity, since it was exactly what the late chairman would have wanted.

“At this sad moment, we need to unite as one family and fight in memory of our dear departed chairman; he was a very good and hard working chairman; it is too bad he has to leave the world this way, but there is nothing we can do, except to pray for his soul,” Mr. Ayisi Boateng lamented, amidst sobbing. S.K Boafo, on his part, condemned the callous act and called for restraint as the security agencies conduct investigations to identify the perpetrators.
