The Sunon Asogli Power Plant is expected to resume power production as soon as it receives gas supplies from Nigeria.
The plant, which produces 180 megawatts (MW) of power, was shut down last Saturday following a strike by workers of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
That led to a reduction in the gas supplied to the Asogli Plant by some 123 million cubic feet by the West African Power Company (WAPCo).
Expectation
According to the Corporate Affairs Manager of WAPCo, Ms Harriet Wereko-Brobbey, the valves to the pipelines were expected to be opened Tuesday.
"As of now, the valves are yet to be opened. When they are eventually opened, there will be the need to build pressure in the lines before pumping and transmission could be done,” she indicated.
"Everything depends on Engas, the company responsible for the transportation of gas to the Volta River Authority (VRA). WAPCo is equally awaiting information from Engas to chart a way forward," she told the Daily Graphic.
Strike over
With the suspension of the strike by petroleum workers in Nigeria, expectations are that the Asogli Plant, which runs solely on gas from Nigeria, will resume power production immediately to ameliorate the ongoing load shedding.
