The United Progressive Party (UPP), led by Mr Akwasi Addai Odike, has received its final certificate of registration from the Electoral Commission.

With the UPP becoming the latest kid on the political block, the EC has so far registered 24 parties.

Registered political parties

The others are the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Convention People’s Party (CPP), Democratic People Party (DPP), EGLE Party, People’s National Convention (PNC), Great Consolidated Popular Party GCPP), United Ghana Movement (UGM), Ghana Democratic Republican Party (GDRP) Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), and the Reformed Patriotic Democrats (RPD).

The Deputy Chairperson in charge of Finance and Administration, Mrs Georgina Opoku Amankwa, who presented the certificate of registration to the leader and chairman of UPP, urged the leadership of the UPP to increase the representation of women in their activities, especially at the executive level, to ensure that they were part of the decision making process.

She said the practice where a few women were allowed in the executive position was not enough, and that the women’s wings should be turned into committees to ensure that the voice of women was heard.

Mrs Amankwa added that  women contributed a lot towards the independence movement and their role had to be recognised in the present democratic dispensation.

On receiving the final certificate, Mr Addai Odike expressed the party’s readiness to abide by the rules and uphold the human rights of the citizens.

Mr Addai Odike also said that the party whose slogan is “Economic Empowerment for the people of Ghana” was ready to go all out to take power from the incumbent NDC.

The logo of the party is a clock with blue, black and red colours.
