The leader and Chairman of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Dr Henry Lartey, has hinted that Ghana would generate enough energy and sell the excess to Europe when the GCPP assumes power after the 2016 general elections.
According to Dr Lartey, the GCPP has the master plan to make solar energy the nation’s main source of power generation to end the perennial power crisis (dumsor dumsor).
He said a GCPP government would bring the solar energy technology in Ghana to change the face of the economy to make the country a hub of industrialization. This, he claimed, would revamp the manufacturing sector and create more jobs for the youth and the teaming unemployed youth.
Dr Lartey stated this on Wednesday in Sunyani during the Brong-Ahafo Regional Delegates’ Congress of the GCPP to elect new regional executives to steer the affairs of the party in the region for the next four years.
The well-attended delegates’ congress, which was supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC) led by the Deputy Regional Director, Samuel Boadu, saw a total of eight persons elected by popular acclamation into various positions.
They are: Christian Kyere, Regional Chairman; Godson Apraku, Vice Chairman; Roosevelt Aniyah, Regional Secretary and Oscar Amponsah, Regional Organiser.
The rest are: Paul Tawiah, Regional Treasurer; Victoria Dufie, Regional Women’s Organiser; Barnabas Abani, Education Secretary and Felicia Adu-Gyamfi, Regional Youth Organiser.
Dr Lartey, who expressed joy about the turn-up, said the GCPP had come to stay and had now become a major force in Ghanaian politics to reckon with.
According to him, his main intention is to turn the economy of Ghana around with the GCPP module of domestication, where “Ghanaians will grow what we eat and eat what we grow.”
He charged the newly elected officers to work hard to sweep all the 29 parliamentary seats in the Brong-Ahafo Region in the 2016 elections.
The General Secretary of the GCPP, John Ameka, noted that Ghanaians are now fed up with the NDC-NPP politics and ready to vote for a new political party to govern them.
He said the leadership of the GCPP would ensure that the cry of Ghanaians to have a new party to govern them – apart from the two major political parties – becomes a reality.
“We are not joking…we are serious because if we don’t rise up to secure the nation, it will be plunged into an economic dungeon,” he said.
