An alleged armed robber nearly killed his accomplice when a gunshot from him missed his victim and rather hit his colleague on the neck at Akrodie near Mim in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The two suspects were, however, arrested by the police when they rushed to the Goaso Government Hospital to receive treatment.

Incident
Speaking to The Mirror, the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, said the incident occurred on Tuesday, May 21, this year at about 9:30 a.m. at Akrodie in the Asunafo North District.

He said a 29-year-old farmer, Micheal Kwadwo, was returning from his farm from Akrodie to Asumura on a motorbike with registration number AS 649-15.

Upon reaching the Bosombepo Forest Reserve, the suspects, Franklin Asamoah Gyebiri (25) and Solomon Kwabena Antwi (24), flagged Kwadwo to stop and assist them, to which he obliged.

Attack
According to ASP Tawiah, the victim picked the suspects as pillion riders and while on their way, they forced him to stop and demanded that he hands over the motorbike to them.

One of the suspects, Solomon Antwi, pointed a locally manufactured pistol at the victim and fired.

However, the bullet missed Kwadwo and rather hit his accomplice, Franklin Gyebiri, on the neck.

Kwadwo abandoned his motorbike and managed to escape into the bush to Akrodie where he reported the incident to the police.

Arrest
The two suspects were subsequently arrested at the Goaso Government Hospital where the stolen motorbike that was used to convey Gyebiri was also retrieved.

The Goaso Circuit Court has since remanded them into prison custody to reappear on Wednesday, June 17, this year.
