Five aspirants contesting the the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries in the Wa Central constituency in the Upper West Region have committed themselves to a resolution to remain united for the party even after the June 13 primaries.
The candidates - Osman Abdul-Hamid, Mahama Ishaq Kafrimentain, Issahaku Moomin Tahiru, Hadi Bawa and Bashie Janet Bibii - made the declaration personally or through representatives at a forum in Wa last Monday organised by Friends of Bawumia - a group of supporters backing the party's vice-presidential candidate.
While pledging their total commitment and loyalty to the party, the aspirants expressed their willingness to abide by the terms of the resolution, namely pursuing decorous campaigns devoid of unhealthy language and rallying behind the winner to tackle the 2016 Parliamentary and Presidential Elections in the constituency.
The initiative by the constituency executive for the resolution had been informed by the determination to wrest the parliamentary seat from the ruling National Democratic Congress for the first time, according to the Secretary of the group, Hanif Jaoto.
He said the unfortunate reputation of being called "a zero seat region (for the NPP) is not a good sign for the party. Aspirants who may lose the primaries must see the need to support the chosen candidates and the party's campaign.
“We want to plead with aspirants contesting the Wa Central seat and those across the nation to not mix their campaigns with invective that may be used against all of us as a party in the upcoming 2016 general election."
The NPP is desperate to win a parliamentary seat in the Upper West Region, where they have not won even a single constituency.
