Playwright, James Ebo Whyte, and his Roverman Production team, last Wednesday, honoured Nanabanyin Dadson, former Editor of Graphic Showbiz, for his contribution to the growth of the arts in the country.
The brief ceremony came off at the end of the corporate showing of Forbidden, the latest play from the stables of Roverman Productions which was hosted at the National Theatre .
Mr Dadson, fondly known as Uncle Nab, received a touching citation, Kente cloth and was pronounced the first life patron of Roverman Productions, which means he is to watch every Roverman Production for as long as he lives.
Forbidden, which opens to the general public today, is a hilarious yet thought-provoking play which promises to give patrons a time of their lives. From every indication, those who made it to the corporate edition enjoyed every bit of the play and the story will be no different this time around.
The play will also show tomorrow and on June 6 and 7. There will be two showings on each day at 4 p.m. and 8p.m.
Forbidden tells the story of Kwaku Koduah, aka Junior, an ace radio personality who finds himself in a dilemma. His lifestyle, which he has no intention of changing, sends his mother on admission at the hospital and causes his father so much embarrassment that he resigns from his position as a senior pastor of his church. Now, Junior has to find a way of maintaining his wild lifestyle and at the same time make his parents happy.
Is the answer Hilda, the innocent sweet and beautiful girl with a fantastic voice whom his parents have adopted? If only he can get the girl to marry him, then he can give his parents the impression that he is settling down. But why is his own brother who is married and a pastor trying to undermine his moves to woo her?
Will Junior get his way with his scheme? And what price will Hilda pay as she ignores the warning signs and goes ahead to accept Junior’s proposal?
There will be answers to these questions and more when one makes a date with the National Theatre today and the subsequent showings.
