Robbers Whip Police Officer In Gas Filling Station Robbery

An armed police officer got whipped and a security man injured when a six-member gang of armed robbers attacked the Mambah gas filling station in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital.

No arrest has so far been made. However, the New Juaben Municipal Police Command has launched a manhunt for the suspects who have fled the town since last Tuesday.

This is the second time Mambah gas filling station has suffered robbery attack within a spate of six months.

The police officer and the security man have been treated and discharged at the Koforidua Government Hospital.

The armed robbers managed to abscond with three days sales of the company. Narrating the incident to the DAILY HERITAGE at the Hospital, the manager of Mambah gas, Victor Ayeh said the armed robbers stormed the gas filling station at around 1am, attacked the private security man on duty, tied both hands and legs and proceeded to whip the armed police officer.

The manager added that the robbers then broke into the office and absconded with the three days sales of the company.

He said distress calls were sent to the police; however, by the time the night patrol team arrived, the armed robbers had escaped. The two security officers who were injured in the process were rushed to the hospital.

The armed robbers did not take away the AK47 riffle which was in the possession of the police officer who they overpowered.

The private security man on duty, who spoke under condition of anonymity while at the hospital explained that, “all that I saw was that, six armed men had appeared, when I attempted to escape, they hit me with a stick and tied my legs and hands with my face down. I didn’t see anything again until the police came to our rescue. Later, I saw the police officer tied face down with blood gushing out from the head with bruises on the body.”

The New Juaben Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Richardson Kumeko, in an interview confirmed the story, adding that he was part of the patrol team who went to the rescue of the victims.

He said even though the armed robbers absconded, the police have taken scientific inventories which will help arrest them.
