Commercial Drivers Threaten To Deepen Strike If�

Some commercials drivers have vowed not to put an end to their strike which begun on Monday, June 1, 2015.

During the strike action, 26 drivers from the Committed Drivers Association were arrested by the Ashiaman police for unlawfully blocking some major roads in the municipal.

According to the chairman of the association, Charles Mensah, his members and others will continue with the strike action if the police fail to release 26 of their fellows who were arrested.

“If they will not let us sleep, they will also not sleep. We will continue to strike for three days,” He told JOY News

Commercial drivers in Accra are protesting against new licensing policies of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).

Last year, the DVLA served a notice that it would no longer register commercial vehicles with no seat belts for passengers.

But the system has been rubbished by commercial drivers nationwide with a sit down strike.

Their strike left dozens of passengers stranded with no commercial vehicle available to convey passengers to their respective destination.

The aggrieved drivers say the system by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) will collapse their business amended.
