Kwesi Nyantakyi Shocked By Sepp Blatters Decision To Resign As FIFA President

Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi has expressed shock about Sepp Blatter’s decision to step down as the President of the World football governing body.

Blatter on Tuesday announced his unexpected decision after just days of being re-elected as FIFA boss amid a growing corruption scandal.

The World football governing body in the last few days has come under massive scrutiny following suspicion of bribery and corruption at the association leading to the arrest of nine current and former FIFA officials in a $150 million bribery scandal allegation.

Nyantakyi, who is a member of the FIFA committee, is stunned by the sudden resignation of the Swiss football administrator.

“His decision really came as a big surprise to me, am yet to contact any of the executive members. But I was really surprised when I heard the news,” Nyantakyi said in an interview on Metro TV’s Good evening Ghana.

“Just days after his election he decides to quit and am still wondering what would have caused him to take such decision.”

“He has come under some various criticisms and that could be a factor. Even some of the American companies like Coca Cola etc have threatened to withdraw their sponsorship packages for FIFA.”

Blatter defiantly stood for a fifth term and was reelected in a landslide on Friday.

The 79-year-old serves as the eighth president of FIFA and is considered as the third longest serving FIFA President after succeeding Brazilian João Havelange in 1998.
