Flooding of parts of the Kumasi Central market brought trading activities to a temporary halt after a mid-morning heavy downpour in the city.
The rains, which started at about 1140 hours, lasted for close to one hour.
While shop owners, their attendants and other open air traders had a hectic time stopping the knee-high flood waters from entering their shops, buyers were also running about looking for shelter.
Apprehensive of the flood disaster in Accra, most shop owners closed their shops and left the market, whilst buyers, who were not conversant with the various routes of the market were seen stranded and moving about cautiously.
Some hawkers who were at safe places outside the market area took advantage of the situation to sell umbrellas and shower caps.
Kenneth Osei Gyimah, a shop owner, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said, it has been the norm for the past years and they would not wait for the rains, this time around to destroy their wares, as he made frantic efforts to stop the water from entering his shop as others clear the drains to allow the water to flow away quickly.
