GMA Tasks Health Professionals to Assist all Flood Victims

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has called on all Medical Doctors, health professionals, and managers of health facilities to ensure that all victims of the flood and fire outbreak received the needed health care.

The GMA also called on the ambulance service providers to also work around the clock to provide the needed support.

"Please look out for and also educate Ghanaians on all possible post floods health related illnesses, to avoid any potential disease outbreaks," the GMA stated in a statement signed by Dr Justice Yankson, Assistant General Secretary and copied to the Ghana News Agency.

It asked government and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to extend the needed support to all affected persons and communities "even as we continue to count our losses as a Nation".

The GMA expressed its sincere heartfelt condolences to all the families who lost their loved ones following the torrential rains and fire outbreak in Accra on Wednesday night.

"We also sympathize with all persons who lost their properties or damaged following the floods in these rather difficult times," the statement said.

It said it was unfortunate that the disaster has exposed the planning and infrastructural challenges the country faced together with the poor compliance and enforcement of laws.

The GMA urged the government to take a critical look at the shortfalls with the aim of addressing same to prevent and or minimize the impact of any future disaster.
