I Thought I Wouldn't Win Because of My Absence - Edem On Winning Black Canadian Award

Prolific Ewe Rapper Edem has won the award for Best International Act Africa at the 2015 Black Canadian Awards.

The Ghanaian Rapper beat 6 of Africas brightest stars including Mafikizolo (South Africa), Yemi Alade (Nigeria), Eddy Kenzo (Uganda), Davido (Nigeria), Oritse Femi (Nigeria), and Teeyah (Ivory Coast) who were in the same category.

Confirming the good news to Peacefmonline.com this morning, Edem who was unable to be present at the awards ceremony said Basically I am very grateful and excited about the fact that I was nominated in the first place and even going ahead to ignite against my other competitors. I am always using all the platforms available to say a big thank you to Ghana and the fans because I couldnt have voted myself into winning and the love and how I was trending on social media and how people kept pushing me was amazing. So am grateful to the Edem fans and the media.

Asked if he is surprise the Ghetto Arise Singer said he was very hopeful but he and his management were not overly optimistic.

About why he couldnt make it to Canada to receive the award himself, Edem said he had another engagement elsewhere so it was just impossible for him to attended the awards ceremony and he thought his absence could affect him to win the award but thing turned out differently.

Personally I was thinking may be my absence from the awards might be a factor that would go against me because the other nominees who would be present might be considered. Those were my thoughts until I had an official communication that I actually won.

He added that even though he couldnt make it, he sent a VRMG representative who received the award on his behalf. The Over Again Rapper also disclosed that his plaque will officially arrive in Ghana on June 16, 2015 and he intends to celebrate it with his die-hard fans.

The awards show was hosted in Toronto Canada on Saturday on June 6th 2015 and winners have been published on the official website.
