June 3 Disaster Tears Flow For Lost Souls

A memorial service for victims of the flood and fire disaster was held yesterday at the forecourt of the State House in Accra.

Yesterday’s ceremony was the climax of the three day national mourning exercise declared last Monday by government in the wake of the double disaster that hit the country on June 3, 2015.

An inaugural memorial service was led by vice President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah Arthur at the Flagstaff House on Monday.
In all, over 150 people are estimated to have lost their lives in a GOIL fuel station explosion at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra after long hours of a heavy downpour which also flooded the city.

The memorial service was inter-faith, inter-denominational, and all Ghanaians especially the families of the victims of the disaster were present to mourn their dead.

Also present were former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufour.
Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party Nana Akufo Addo and Vice presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia also joined to mourn the victims.

The Christian Council of Ghana will also hold a memorial service at the Osu Presby Church for the victims.
