NPP Delegates Warn Philip Addison

Some delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the Korle Korley constituency in Accra have charged Lawyer Philip Addison, a parliamentary aspirant at the constituency to call his campaign team to order.

According to them, Lawyer Addison and his team are trying to destroy the party rather than helping it win power in 2016.

In an interview with the DAILY HERITAGE, Ahmed Yusif, a delegate at the constituency, said they (delegates) were not concerned about who wins the elections, but are calling for a free and fair election.

The angry looking Yusif told the paper that members of Lawyer Addison’s campaign team were spreading information that Nii Noi Nortey has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service when in actual fact; the man was in his house with his family.

“We’re from the same party so we should be united and take a common decision which will help the party win elections. We don’t want somebody who will bring division amongst party members,” he stated.

Mr Yusif further appealed to Lawyer Addison to advise his campaign team to sell his ideas to the people rather than try to attack his opponents. He added that the delegates and the entire NPP family will support whoever gets the nod so far as the election is conducted in a free and fair manner.

“We should come together and work as a team because at the end of it all, we won’t go and vote for an individual, but will vote for the party as a whole.

“We don’t intend to fight anybody, our major concern is to bring the party to power and I think we are still on course in achieving that,” he mentioned.

When asked about their plan to report to the situation to the National Executive Committee of the party, Mr Yusif said they were waiting for some ‘big names’ in the party to lead them in order to lodge their complaint to the executive committee.

Korle Klottey Seat

Nii Armah Ashittey of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is the current Member of Parliament (MP) for the Korle Klottey constituency. He beat Samuel Adjei-Tawiah of the NPP at the last election.

Three strong members of the party, Nii Noi Nortey, Samuel Adjei-Tawiah, and Lawyer Philip Addison, are vying for the chance to lead the party to capture the parliamentary seat from the NDC.

The party, however, has halted the primary in the constituency pending the determination of cases referred to the National Appeals Committee.
