Defeated NPP MPs Could Misappropriate Common Fund Cash - Pratt

The Managing Editor for the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has suggested that defeated incumbent NPP MPs in the just-ended parliamentary primaries could misappropriate the MPs Common Fund meant for development.

Speaking on Atinka FM on Monday, the social commentator stated, “the MPs Common Fund goes to the MP and not the Parliamentary Candidates” and wondered if the defeated incumbent MPs will have the will and zeal to use the monies for the development of their various constituencies.

“The MP knows that in 19-months time, he/she will be unemployed; they may not have built mansions and secured jobs and so they could save these monies and use them when they are out of parliament.

He said, “19 months to the general elections, 24 MPs are out of Parliament and how are you going to function in Parliament.”

Mr Pratt also said the decision by party delegates to vote 24 incumbent MPs out of Parliament could hurt the party’s chances in the 2016 election, explaining that most of these MPs have acquired experience over the years .

According to him, the defeated MPs may not show commitment in the party’s 2016 campaign.

He however added that the MPs could put the defeat and disgrace behind them and campaign for the party to win the 2016 election.
