A Group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters numbering about twenty in the Bibiani-Anweaso-Bekwai district have locked up a number of government offices in the area, after throwing out the workers who they accused of playing politics with their positions and undermining the work of the district Chief Executive (DCE), Moses Kofi Armah.
The appalling incident which occurred yesterday around 10:00am saw the closure of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), the Information Service Department (ISD), National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) offices. The irate youth did not end their action there, but went to the offices of the Deputy Coordinating Director of the local assembly and the Business Advisory Center (BAC), where they walked out the staff and closed down the place. This reporter gathered that no one was hurt in the awful incident.
A staff of the Assembly who confirmed the story told this reporter in a telephone interview that they were terrified with the action of the youth who were holding offensive weapons, as they moved from one office to the other, sacking staff and locking up their offices.
�As I am speaking with you now, all staff of the assembly are outside their offices because they have been locked up�, he said. When asked whether the case had been reported to the police, he answered in the negative.
According to the staff, the DCE had asked them not to report to the police and that he would have the problem resolved amicably, a claim which was denied by the DCE when this reporter contacted him.
Mr. Moses Armah, the DCE, even though confirmed the incident, he denied that he asked the staff not to report to the police. Though he did not justify the action of his party members, he however questioned the neutrality of some of the staff, especially those working with the Information Service Department. According to him, he had already reported the conduct of the erring staff to the Minister of Information and the Western regional Minister.
