MP Supplies Free Premix Fuel To 3,000 Fishermen

As part of efforts to improve the fishing industry in Cape Coast, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast South constituency, George Kweku Ricketts Hagan has supplied a full tanker of premix fuel to 3,000 fishermen within his constituency free of charge.

He again distributed fishing nets to some fishermen who fish in the lagoon, and assured that plans were underway to distribute 3,000 choker smokers to the fishmongers to boost fishing in the area and assured them that he has opened his arms to his constituents who have trusted him to give him the mandate to serve them.

According to the MP, he knows how fishermen suffer to cater for their families, especially, educating their wards and hoped the free premix fuel will help in diverse ways.

Mr. Hagan urged the fishermen to do all they could to save money for their future to enable them earn money when they reach their old age since there is no pension scheme for fishermen.

The MP who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry stated that he is working tirelessly with the fisheries minister on how best they can come up with an insurance policy for fishermen across the country.

Mr.Hagan observed that the sale of premix fuel used to have so many problems, but with the support from the governing National Democratic Congress, led by President John Dramani the premix situation has been a thing of the past.

He said the government has a good heart for fishermen and called on them to always support and rally behind it to deliver all the promises the president made to them.

Mr. Hagan urged the premix landing beach committees to use the proceeds from premix fuel to embark on more developmental projects in all the fishing communities to help the government to fulfill its promises.

He again appealed to residents of Cape Coast, irrespective of their political colours to embrace any development project that comes to the constituency to ensure more developments for the area.

He called on his constituents who have contributions or suggestions towards the development of Cape Coast to feel free and come to him since he (Ricketts) cannot do the work alone and needs everybody on board.

The deputy minister, therefore, asked his constituents to forgive him if he is not coming to his constituency regularly for interaction due to his ministerial position.

He added that he is busy lobbying for more developmental projects for his constituency in order to create jobs for the unemployed youth so that by the end of his tenure he will be able to point out some development projects, but not the number of his visits.

According to him, he has lobbied for many projects for his constituency including a number of roads and the on-going construction of the Kotokruaba market among others.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive for Cape Coast, Mrs. Pricilla Arhin Korankye who accompanied the MP described the MPs free distribution of premix fuel as unprecedented since no MP in the Cape Coast South constituency has ever given free premix fuel to his constituents.

She charged the beneficiary fishermen to use the free premix fuel to work and save the profit to expand their businesses since the MP will not supply them again.

The MP was accompanied by the Public Relations Officer for the MP, Ishmael Abakah, chairman for Cape Coast South constituency, Mohammed Muftiao, constituency Secretary, Theodore Yankah and youth organizer Alfred Halm
