NPP Has Lost Moral Right To Talk About Corruption... - Allotey Jacobs

Central regional chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Allotey Jacobs says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has lost its moral right to criticize the Mahama government on the lines of corruption.

According to him, the rank and file of the NPP cannot talk about corruption anymore.

Allotey Jacobs argued that the events that proceeded the primaries clearly exposed the character of the NPP.

Speaking on PeaceFM's morning show "Kokrokoo", Allotey Jacobs alleged that some Parliamentary aspirants who won the primaries had to distribute cars and give delegates huge sums of monies in order to sail through successfully.

The NDC Chairman claims he is privy to information that some aspirants doled out hundreds of US Dollars to be elected by the delegates and also accused aspirants who contested the Bantama seat in the Ashanti Region on Saturday, June 13, 2015 of inducing delegates with car offers.

This, to Allotey Jacobs, means the NPP has compromised itself and therefore cannot turn around to accuse the Mahama government of corruption.

Looking at the instances of bribery allegations that characterized the NPP Primaries, he wondered rather openly; "so will they turn round again and come and tell us that Ghana is broke? That Ghana is in a mess? Just primaries, just primaries! I don’t think the NPP has the moral right to come and tell Ghanaians that all is not well with Ghana. You don’t have the moral right. Even the right to talk about corruption! Look, giving delegates these hundreds of dollars is in itself corruption.

“...Let’s ask ourselves. In view of what went into their (NPP) primaries; let’s ask ourselves again 'is Ghana broke as a country. Is Ghana broke?" he questioned the NPP.
