Fallout From NPP Primaries: NDC Urges NPP To Rein In Supporters

The National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kofi Adams, has called on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rein in their supporters who caused a lot of wrong during their just-ended parliamentary primaries.

“It is important to say that a lot of things went wrong during the parliamentary primaries of the NPP last Saturday and what happened cannot simply be glossed over,” he told the Daily Graphic in an interview yesterday.

Congratulating the NPP on successfully organising all its internal elections leading to its parliamentary primaries last Saturday, Mr Adams pointed out that the NPP itself had raised the use of money to influence delegates, whilst some parliamentary aspirants of the party had complained of the use of tampered delegates, register even for their internal election processes.

Furthermore, Mr Adams said disturbances before, during and after the primaries and declaration of results were reported by the media and cited instances of destruction of election materials as happened in the Asokwa Constituency in the Ashanti Region and destruction of properties as reported in the Ofoase-Ayirebi Constituency in the Eastern Region as wrongs that could not be glossed over.

“These are not occurrences we must entertain in our democratic process,” he told the Daily Graphic.

“We are begging the NPP to quickly rein in their fanatics and “re-fence” them so that they do not extend it to the national elections,” he appealed.

However, according to Mr Adams, the NDC welcomed all the parliamentary candidates elected, saying “we know that they are no match for the NDC since victory will be ours in the 2016 Elections”.

NDC Preparation

On the steps being taken by the NDC to complete all its internal elections, Mr Adams articulated that the NDC had already successfully organised its polling stations, constituency, regional and national elections.

“We are currently working feverishly to complete all our internal elections, with the organisation of the presidential and parliamentary primaries by the end of this year,” he assured.

Currently, according to Mr Adams, the NDC was about to complete the compilation of its bio-metric registration of its members nationwide.

“Once that process and the guidelines regulating the conduct of our presidential and parliamentary primaries are over, we will affirm the dates for those primaries to be organised, hopefully before the year ends,” he stated.

Remain resolute

Mr Adams, therefore, called on the rank and file of the party to remain resolute and work extra hard for victory in 2016.

He gave the assurance that the challenges confronting the nation were being tackled by the party and therefore urged members, supporters and sympathisers of the NDC to have confidence and trust in the abilities of the leadership of the party to deliver according to the party’s manifesto.

He also asked them to exercise restraint as the party worked around the clock to meet their needs for party organisation and personal wellbeing.
