Ghana Records First Case Of Swine Flu

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed to newsmen it has detected a case of swine flu in the capital. Details are sketchy but the Director General of the Ghana Health Services, Dr. Elias Sory, says researchers at the ministry are conducting a series of tests on the case. He however says this case in Accra is not related to a publication in the Today Newspaper about a reported case at Efia Nkwanta Hospital in the Western Region. He said samples of the Western Region case have only arrived in Accra for laboratory tests. A media briefing is expected later Thursday on the swine flu discovered in Accra and the reported case at Efia Nkwanta Hospital. Swine flu is a deadly respiratory disease caused by a strain of the influenza type A virus known as H1N1.
