Stephen Appiah To Be Handed A Role At Hearts of Oak

Former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah who calls time on his playing career this saturday at the Accra sports stadium has been offered a management role by the Executive Board Chairman of Accra Hearts of oak, Togbe Afede XIV.

According to the Chief of Asogli, after a stellar 20-year career as a professional footballer during which he led the nation to two successive world cups has garnered a lot of knowledge and experience which will be essential in nurturing the next generation of Ghanaian footballers for success.

Togbe Afede, the majority shareholder of the club, said that the Phobians had a track record when it came to giving former players of the club a management role and cited, Joe Addo, former skipper of the club, who is now the corporate affairs manager of the club.

“I will ask you to make his experience and knowledge available to the young ones. We Accra Hearts of Oak will offer him the opportunity to do it,” Togbe Afede said last Friday after welcoming Appiah and officials of his testimonial match organisers, Primerial Ghana Limited to his residence in Accra.

“We have Joe Addo supporting us and we are happy to give Stephen the same platform so that even if his career has come to an end, his influence will not die through the platform we shall give him to share his knowledge and experience with the younger ones.”

Togbe Afede also noted that football across the world was undergoing a lot of changes and he was hopeful that Accra Hearts of Oak would be at the forefront with footballers into management.

“Football is undergoing a lot of changes, we have seen it happening with what is going on at FIFA,” he added.

Togbe Afede also assured Appiah of the support of the hearts family for both the dinner and testimonial match which takes place on Friday and Saturday respectively.
