I Work For The Global Alliance of Mayors, Not NDC Vanderpuije

The Lord Mayor of Accra, Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, has responded to criticism from his NDC party that his actions in respect of Sodom and Gomorrah will send the party to opposition. Speaking to reporters after a heated meeting with NDC executives in Odododiodio, the Mayor retorted that he is answerable only to the Global Alliance of Mayors, and not to the NDC. Was it not the African Mayors Association that awarded me the prestigious President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos African Mayor Awards in Luanda, Angola? Did you not see the humiliation I felt instead of the honor I should have experienced when I managed to bring the 4th Summit of the World Alliance of Mayors to Accra? he lamented. Dr Vanderpuije became the first president of the Global Alliance of Mayors and Leaders from Africa and of African descent when he was elected by his peers in September 2014. The gavel of the presidency was consequently handed to him during the second meeting of the Global Alliance held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The Mayor is said to have received a warning that he will be stripped off his award and position in the Alliance if he is unable to inject some planning into infrastructure developments in the city as well as ending Accras perennial floods a situation his fellow Mayors experienced during the June summit, as it rained so much some of them had to be taken to the venue of the meeting in Ghana Navy boats. Dr Vanderpuije has vowed to continue with the necessary actions to sort the city out once and for all.
