New EC Boss Must Be Vigilant�She Should Make Ghana Proud - Sir John

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party [NPP], Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie who has been an ardent critic of outgoing Electoral Commission boss, Dr. Afari Gyan over the years since the NPP taste opposition has wished the new EC Chairperson well.

The former NPP chief scribe had always called for an early replacement of Dr. Afari Gyan when his retirement was due.

However, President John Dramani Mahama in accordance with Article 70(2) of the 1992 Constitution, appointed Mrs. Charlotte Osei as new Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana.

Mrs. Charlotte Osei's appointment has been lauded by the former NPP secretary affectionately called in politics as “Sir John”.

In an interview with OKAY FM’s "Ade Akye Abia" morning show, Sir John urged the newly appointed EC Boss to – “Make herself, Ghana, and family proud”.

“I pray for her success. She should be vigilant and work with a clear mind,” he added. 

Mrs. Osei until her appointment was the Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education – she is a lawyer with considerable experience in public service management, institutional reform and also has expertise in corporate law, banking, and insurance, project financing and public-private partnerships.

The incoming EC Chairperson holds a Masters in Law (LLM) from Queen’s University, Kingston, Canada and a Masters in Business Leadership from the University of South Africa, Pretoria. She obtained an LLB (Hons) from the University of Ghana.
