Asiedu Nketia On Newly Appointed EC Boss

General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called the bluff people judging the competency of the newly appointed Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Charlotte Osei.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah said given the academic credentials of the lady, the job at the EC is not above her.

"It is just unfair that people are judging her for a work she is about to undertake. Why don’t they just wait and see what she can do before jumping the gun” he stressed.

Mrs. Charlotte Osei, head of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has been appointed chair of Ghana’s electoral commission replacing Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan who has officially retired after reaching age 70.

Many, including the various political parties in the country have welcomed her appointment describing it as a boost for women empowerment.

While some have described her as an NDC mole, others also believed she cannot stand the political pressures associated with her new job.

But Asiedu Nketia on Asempa FMs Ekosi Sen Monday maintained that "looking at her academic credentials, I think she really deserves it and I know she is very competent as well".

He also described as 'childish' claims that President Mahama erred in appointing a new EC boss ahead of the court pronoucement on the procedure for appointing an Electoral Commissioner.

“President Mahama didn’t appoint on his own but by the help of the constitution and so I’m not surprised because he (Mahama) refused to listen to complains from the opposition and appointed maturely so those complaining should just stop because it is pre- mature” he stated.

Asiedu Nketia called on political parties and stakeholders to give the needed support Mrs. Osei will need to do her work professionally.
