Win For NPP Begins Homestretch 2016 Akufo-Addo

The 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has urged the electorate in Talensi to vote massively for the party’s parliamentary candidate, in tomorrow’s by-election.

Addressing a mammoth rally at Winkongo JSS Park in the Talensi Constituency yesterday, Nana Akufo-Addo told the huge crowd that “supporting Wuni to win the by-election will begin the NPP’s homestretch for 2016.”

The NPP held its final rally at Winkogo in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region to climax its campaign activities towards tomorrow’s by-election.

The bigwigs of the party, including the Flag bearer and his running mate, national and regional executives as well as parliamentary candidates of the NPP attended the rally.

Also in attendance were Mr Alan Kojo Kyeramaten, Mr Osafo Marfo, and Mr Addai Nimo.

Nana Akufo-Addo called on the people to come out and vote massively for their parliamentary candidate, Mr. Duanab Pearson Wuni.
He said they should not be intimidated to stay away from voting and urged them to also protect the ballot after casting their votes.

He said the people of Talensi should vote for Mr. Duanab Pearson Wuni because he was an honest, intelligent man who would be a worthy replacement for the outgone Member of Parliament.

Nana Akufo-Addo said when the NPP retains the seat it would be an indication of the coming to power in 2016, indicating "we are coming back to power because we a have a plan and programme to develop all the sectors of the Ghanaian economy".

A plan and programme that will bring jobs to the young people, that is going to improve our agric sector and strengthen our farmers, that is going to develop the industrial potential of our nation, he emphasised.

He said Ghana was rich but the country was poor because of poor leadership and indicated Ghanaians saw an improvement in their living standard during President Kufuor’s leadership and said that was why NPP was coming back.

The NPP throughout its campaign has been appealing to the people of Talensi to vote for the party to help retain the seat.
Earlier, the flag bearer of the NPP canvassed support from chiefs in the Talensi Constituency for the party’s candidate in tomorrow’s by-election.

“Even though chiefs do not take part in partisan politics, you vote. So I'm here to ask you to vote for my candidate, Thomas Duanab, in next Tuesday’s by-election. I am also here to introduce myself to you, as the presidential candidate of the NPP for 2016. As you all know I'm a great friend of the Upper East, and I am here to get your support for the NPP in Tuesday's election and also for the 2016 election.”

These were the words of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the 2016 presidential candidate of the NPP, on Saturday, marking ‘Day 2’ of his campaign for the NPP candidate in the Talensi by-election, Thomas Duanab Wuni.

Addressing chiefs and opinion leaders from Winkogo, Balungu, Pwalugu and Yinduri, in separate meetings, Nana Akufo-Addo explained that the purpose of his presence in Talensi was to “help find a successor to the Paramount Chief, Tongo-Raana Kolbilsong Namalteng”, who was the immediate past NPP Member of Parliament for the constituency.

The NPP leader informed the chiefs that he had been in Talensi since Friday, and the purpose of his visit to them was to “come to try and persuade you, and the people of Talensi to vote for Thomas Duanab. It is because of this that I am going round the constituency, meeting important people such as yourselves.”

Accompanied by new Upper East Regional Chairman, Murtala Mohammed; Upper West Regional Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Rahaman; Northern Regional NPP Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu; Eastern Regional NPP Chairman, Kiston Akomeng Kissi; former Minister of Finance under the Kufuor government and leading member of the NPP, Yaw Osafo Maafo; Akufo-Addo assured the Chiefs that the NPP has in place programmes and policies for the development of the nation, when voted into power in 2016.

“We have a big plan for the development of our country”, he said, adding that “this will make it easy for you as chiefs, as we will give all the young men in your area, jobs. The NPP is coming to help the people of Ghana and I can assure you that I am not coming to put Ghana’s money in my pocket.”

On the NPP’s Talensi candidate, Mr Thomas Doanab, popularly known as ‘Home Boy’, Nana Akufo-Addo urged the chiefs, opinion leaders and constituents to vote for him because he is “an honest and competent man and he’ll be a good representative of yours in Parliament. He is a good man.”

The people of Talensi will on Tuesday head to the polls to elect a new Member of Parliament after its immediate past MP resigned following his elevation to the status of a paramount chief
