Talensi By-Election: Akua Donkor Pockets GHC 30,000

The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP)’s Parliamentary candidate for the up-coming by-election in Talensi, Yaro Bameezina Philip has accused the party’s founder and leader, Madam Akua Donkor of pocketing an amount of 300 million old cedis [GHc30,000] meant for his campaign.

Yaro Bameezima who said Madam Akua Donkor came to plead with him to contest the by-elections on the ticket of the party said he could not understand why the controversial politician would pocket the money meant for his campaign.

“They have given you the money, something like 300 million old cedis [GHc30,000] and you don’t want to give me a pesewa. Should I use my own money for the campaign? You were on your knees begging me to stand for you and now you don’t want to push money,” he alleged.

He however could not tell where the money for the campaign came from especially as Madam Akua Donkor is the only known executive of the party.

The lack of money, he says has hampered his campaign in the Upper East Regional constituency especially as the two biggest political parties, NDC and NPP are accusing one another of sharing goodies to electorate.

“Everybody is campaigning but what Akua Donkor is doing is not the best. In the north here, you can’t do politics without pushing money,” he said in an interview with Citi FM.

Against this backdrop, Yaro Bameezina Philip said he is not likely not to vote for himself due to the neglect.

“People have started calling me in-coming MP. Don’t be surprised I will not even vote for myself on that day because what she started yesterday I’m not happy with her and I want the whole world to know that this woman is not a correct woman.

“All the posters I did it myself. Going to Accra back and forth, I paid my own bills. And the youth are saying that they have given me the money, and I don’t want to spend it,” he said.

Meanwhile, all the political parties including the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Decomcratic Congress (NDC) rounded up their rallies yesterday in Talensi.
