IEA Holds Joint Symposium On Interparty Dialogue With African Political Party Leaders

The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) has organized a roundtable forum for various political actors across the African continent.

The forum will last for 3 days and bring together delegation from countries such as Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya and Ghana.

The meeting of the dignitaries from these countries is to foster unity, democracy and also open room for the stakeholders to share their experiences from the political climate in these respective countries.

During the opening event held at the IEA Conference room in Accra on Tuesday July 7, Programmes Manager from the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD), Egbert Pos reinforced the importance of interparty dialogue between political figures.

He noted in his presentation that interparty dialogue provide the opportunity to build trust and create mutual relationship among political parties.

He also explained that interparty dialogue is associated with negotiation, consensus-seeking and helps to find solutions to challenges.

According to him, the dialogue will also create a safe meeting space for politicians and parties to meet and adopt policies to reform their nations.

Leader of the Zimbabwe delegation hoped the forum will aid the stakeholders to adopt pragmatic steps to restore economic stability, promote equality and national harmony as well as respect fundamental human rights.

In attendance were the former Deputy Speaker of Parliament Prof. Mike Qquaye, former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Ohene Ntow; former National Chairman of the NPP, Peter Mac Manu and a 15-member delegation from Zimbabwe, Uganda and Kenya among other dignitaries.
