Housing Package For TMA Retiring Staff

Mayor of Tema Metropolitan Assembly, Isaac Ashai Odmatten has declared his intention to ensure decent packages for employees who served the assembly and are on retirement.

One of the packages include housing staff, as the assembly has initiated steps and also acquired land to put up staff houses for the retirees.

“Our target is to ensure that people who served the assembly retire with a decent retirement package.” He emphasized.

This is to ensure that staff members work hard and go home with befitting packages; it is also to encourage current staff members to work harder in order to push the assembly to achieve its set goals.

“We do this to encourage and motivate current staff that if they do well, they will definitely be commended.”

Mayor of Tema made this disclosure in an interview with the media during the Republic Day celebration in Tema.

The occasion was used to honour, recognize and appreciate retired staff of the assembly who worked between 30 and 40 years, with over 200 being awarded.

Some of the items given included fridges, burners, home appliances, citations, clothes and GH¢100.00 each for the winners.

The occasion was graced by selected old citizens from all the electoral areas of the metropolis, Tema Traditional Council, Ghana Navy, VAG Association of Ghana and other identifiable groups within the metropolis.

Mayor of Tema used the opportunity to caution government workers to stop using working hours for social media activities and reading of newspapers that end up doing virtually nothing at the end of the day.

He entreated them to work hard, be punctual, eschew laziness, lateness, and avoid spending productive time on social media platforms such as games, facebook, and whatsapp.

“Under the transformation agenda of His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama we want to work hard and go home with satisfaction.”

The first mayor of Tema, Nii Armah Ashitey, who is currently the Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korley Constituency of the National Democratic Congress called on the assembly to put in their maximum effort towards the development of the assembly.

He further called for the empowerment of the sub-metropolitan committees and others with the needed resources to play their roles effectively.

Mr Ashitey who was the Greater Accra Regional Minister and Minister for Employment and Labour Relations in the late President Atta Mills administration urged the assembly to put in place measures to generate more revenue for the assembly.
