Star Times has started arbitration proceedings at the London-based International Commercial Court (ICC) against Ghana following the termination of a contract it signed with the Government to execute the Digital Migration (DTT) project.

Star Times had signed a contract with the Government of Ghana but by a letter dated January 14, 2015, the Ministry of Communications (MoC) unilaterally terminated the DTT contract.

Start Times has used various means to settle the dispute, including some diplomatic interventions but all have proven futile.
Notwithstanding the efforts by Star Times, Government signed a new contract with K-Net Ltd on June 7, 2015.
In a notice of intent to sue dated June 4, 2015, Star Times has given Ghana 30 days to resolve the matter satisfactorily or go through a full litigation at the ICC.

A Star Times source said since Government had gone ahead to sign a contract for the DTT, they had no option, but to sue Ghana at the ICC.

The company source maintains that Star Times has built an excellent reputation and technical competency in more than 27 years and has vast experience in Digital Migration projects across countries like Rwanda, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania and China.
