Police Grab Leader Of 4-Man Robbery Team

The leader of a group of four men who broke into a vehicle and motor parts warehouse at Sapeiman in Accra and made away with items worth GH¢30,000, has been arrested by the Amasaman Police.

The three accomplices of Collins Akwasi Frimpong managed to escape arrest when the police intercepted the truck on which they were transporting the merchandise which included car tyres, tricycle parts and other items to Bolgatanga for sale.

Briefing journalists, DSP Elvis Bawa Sadongo, the Amasaman District Police Commander, said the police received information that the four persons had planned to break into the warehouse belonging to a private company, Home Pavilion, to steal the items.

Arrest

DSP Sadongo said intelligence gathered by the police also indicated that the suspects, on July 4, 2015, went to the Neoplan station at circle in Accra to hire a Tata cargo truck that would transport the goods to Bolgatanga.

“The suspects, according to our intelligence, told the driver to meet them at Amasaman at midnight to load the items from the warehouse.”

Police interception

Based on the information received, DSP Sadongo said the police intercepted the truck around the Excel Filling Station at Sapeiman while on its way to Bolgatanga with the items.

He said when the suspects saw the police, they took to their heels but the police managed to arrest Frimpong, the ringleader.

Mr Sadongo said the suspect admitted to the offence after the owner of the warehouse was invited by the police to assist in investigations.

He said efforts were being made to apprehend the three men at large.
