Prez Mahama Emits Negativities- Chairman Wontumi

The ruling National Democratic Congress may have won the Talensi seat in last week's by-election, but the victory sure did not come on a silver platter. It was a week filled with greed, acrimony, bloodshed and near lost of human lives.

In all this, one person cannot escape blame. And according to the Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, the first gentleman of the land; President John Dramani Mahama should be held responsible.

In an interview with Peacefmonline.com, the NPP stalwart described President Mahama as a leader who "cares more about winning elections rather than doing the right thing". He chided the president for watching his ministers spew “uncouth” remarks without any form of reprimand.

He cannot come to terms why the Interior Minister Mark Woyongo is still a member of his inner circle - Cabinet - after making the infamous ‘Violence Begets Violence' statement.

“President Mahama emits negativities. His inability to stamp his authority after Woyongo made that reckless statement clearing shows that he cares more about winning elections rather than doing the right thing”, he said.

Recounting some of the atrocities that occurred at Talensi to Peacefmonline.com, Mr. Antwi-Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, accused the NDC of deliberately thugs to the area to ensure the ruling party wins the by-election at all cost.

Violence almost marred the smooth run of the just- ended by-election in the Talensi Constituency in the Upper East Region. The violence at Talensi was mixed with sporadic firing of guns and attacks with machetes during the conduct of the polls, resulting in the hospitalization of victims and destruction of vehicles.

Few days after this, disagreement, over which household butchers' should supply meat to the Regent in Bimbilla, pushed some residents in the town to pick up guns and fire at will at each other. 12 people have so far died as a result of the incident and Chairman Wontumi believes the situation could have been solved if President Mahama had openly censured Mark Woyongo for his  ‘Violence Begets Violence' remark.
