Wise Miss Chance To Win Cup

C.K Akonnors hopes of guiding Eleven Wise to winning a silverware this season was dealt a major blow following Wednesdays Presidents Cup defeat to Hearts of Oak. The former Ghana international has come good in his debut season as a coach but would rue the missed opportunities during the game that cost them the Cup. And for the Phobians, the victory comes in handy as they expect the Cup success to revive their failing chances of winning the league title having performed poorly in recent times. After drawing 1-1 in regulation time, the Phobians went on to win the Cup 5-4 on at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium. Hearts had substitute, Eric Gawu to thank for victory after the striker drew them level, seconds after coming on in the second half and scoring the decisive final kick to win the Phobians the Cup. Wise, playing with ten men after Stephen Aidoo was sent off for driving his boot across the face of Eric Nyarko in an aerial clearance scored the opener after 62 minutes through Winfred Dormon. But Gawu was on hand to draw Hearts level four minutes later when he managed to win a mid-air challenge against goalkeeper Mohammed Alhassan to flick the ball into the empty post. The goal sent the game into penalties and each side converted three of their first set of five kicks. Hearts found target in their sixth and seventh attempts with Wise missing out on their final kick.
