Hearts Win Prez Cup

Accra Hearts of Oak yesterday brought smiles back on the faces of their teeming fans when they defeated Eleven Wise 5-4 on penalties to win the President�s Cup match played at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra. At the end of regulation time, the two sides had settled for a one-all drawn game. Winfred Dormon opened the floodgates when he profited from defensive blunder by Dan Coleman in the 61st minute and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Laud Quartey.However, Hearts equalized through Eric Gawu in the 67th minute after a defensive blunder by Eric Owusu saw the substitute heading home the vital goal. The Phobians from this time on dominated proceedings but were unlucky when Hamza Abdulai�s incisive free kick in the 69th minute missed the goal post by inches. They again missed a glorious opportunity in the 92th minute when Gawu saw his shot saved by substitute goalkeeper Baba Sampana who replaced Mohammed Alhassan in the 85th minute. Despite the loss, Wise gave a good account of themselves. C.K. Akunnor, coach of the team, said he was satisfied with the performance of his boys as he was bent on staying in the Glo Premier League which has entered a crucial stage. Nii Noi Thomspon, Coach of Hearts also expressed satisfaction with his team�s play, saying the Phobians played better on the day than in previous matches. �I needed the win to launch into a new path of winning the league. I said at a press conference on Tuesday that I was going to win the President Cup. The league will not elude the Phobians.
