A severe rainstorm ripped off the roofs of classroom blocks of two schools, destroyed books, records, uprooted trees and football goal posts last Friday, at Ave-Afiadenyigba in the Akatsi North District.
D. A Junior High School (J.H.S), with all its three classrooms and an office, got destroyed, and the R/C Primary School with four classrooms, had their roofs ripped off.
The debris could be found scattered all over, and the pupils, numbering about 120, were busy tidying up the place when the GNA visited there on Monday.
Authorities of both schools told the GNA that the storm which swept through the entire district, started about 30 minutes after school closed at 1400 hours, and lasted for about 40 minutes.
Mr. James Gunu, District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, who visited the schools in the company of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) officials, to access the extent of damage, promised that the Assembly would be the fixing the structures as early as possible.
He has, meanwhile, ordered the fixing of blackboards in a newly constructed classroom block for use by the JHS, while the primary school pupils had moved into an uncompleted classroom pavilion.
The DCE, who said academic work would not be affected so much because of those arrangements, noted that the gravity of the storm and the degree of havoc caused would have been more dangerous if classes were in session.
Mr. Gunu said at least 10 buildings were destroyed and several hectares of maize farms flattened in the district.
