Don't Promise Quality Education If You Can't Provide Chalk

The Women  in Defence of Education ( WIDE ) is appalled to hear the derogatory and unsavory response that had the earmarks of arrogance borne out of unsolicited and undeserved power, fall out from the mouth of Mrs Matilda Amissah Arthur wife of the vice president of the republic of Ghana.

Her vituperative response to the innocent but unsuspecting headmistress of Kukurantumi basic school was repulsive, repugnant, reprehensible and smacks of a mind frustrated due to factors beyond human imagination.

We find Mrs Arthur's comments to be one thousands of miles away from the venerable position she occupies! Such statements don't gratify an innocent soul like the headmistress who saw in the 2nd Lady of the republic a mother who could channel all her problems to a leader (Mahama) who is not so accessible.

A cursory diagnosis of the unwarranted response given to the headmistress depicts a policy this NDC administration has adopted going forward.

Instead of addressing the downward trend in our educational system , the Mahama/Amissah Arthur administration is pursuing policies so archaic that Socrates and Aristotle would find it very difficult to remember it came from them when they were alive.

Ghanaians were promised quality education in the run-up to the 2012 elections , but the opposite direction is where this directionless administration is leading us to.

The Second Lady  insistance that government has ‘spoilt’ Ghanaians by providing for even basic needs and that has led to parents becoming reluctant to acquire school uniforms for their wards and are instead relying on the free school uniforms by government clearly defeats the principles of a government that pride itself as Social Democrats.

We the Women in Defence of education ( WIDE) would like to know from her Excellency Mrs Matilda Amissah Arthur

Why should chalks, registers and notebooks be the responsibilities of teachers whose meagre salaries can hardly take them beyond two weeks?

We are still beside ourselves with grief because, this government promised the good people of Ghana quality education.

But shamefully they cannot even provide basic necessities as chalk, registers and teachers log books to facilitate smooth running of the already deteriorating educational system that has already been saddled with examination malpractices in recent times.

We still remember the millions of cedis budgeted for sanitary pads , yet our schools lack basic requirement such as chalk.

We call on Mrs Matilda Amissah Arthur to use Her position as the 2nd Lady of the republic of Ghana to lobby through her husband to as a matter of urgency provide all schools nationwide their basic needs.

Ghanaian children deserves better.

Long live Ghana
Long live Ghanaian children God bless us all
