Some senior commercial sex workers in Tarkwa in the Western Region have mercilessly beaten up some young prostitutes who they blame for collapsing the business.

According to some of the older prostitutes, the younger ones have taken over their men, leading to a decrease in prices.

The older prostitutes, who violently attacked their juniors in the open, claim the juniors, who are between the ages of 14 and 17 years, take a meagre GH¢10 as against the GH¢50 charged by their elders, thus preventing the men in the town from patronising their services.

Starr News reports that the older prostitutes have vowed to make the streets uncomfortable for the younger prostitutes to practice their trade.

Meanwhile, the Western Regional Police Command has arrested 18 suspected criminals and 11 women suspected to be prostitutes in a swoop in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

The suspects were arrested on Tuesday, July 14, between 9:30pm and 11:30pm around Aponkye Nkakra Avenue and Shippers Roundabout.

The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Isaac Alex Quainoo, said persons suspected to be commercial sex workers have been harassing people around Shippers Roundabout at night; the exercise was, therefore, intended to curtail such illegal activities in the metropolis to ensure sanity in society.
