Two illustrious businessmen, Messrs Osei Kwame (Despite) and Ernest Ofori Sarpong, have been honoured for their "immense contribution towards humanity" by FITNESS FIRST Club (FFC).

The duo, who are patrons of the club, were specially credited with a plaque each for their "deep affection and sincere concern for victims in the June 3rd twin disaster".

Following the massive destruction of properties running into several millions of cedis and the loss of nearly 160 lives, in last month's flood and fire disaster, Dr Osei Kwame and Dr Ernest Ofori Sarpong set up a relief fund with an initial amount of GHC 100,000 to support relief efforts for the victims.

At a short but impressive ceremony to honour the two individuals, Spokesperson for the club, Mr Emmanuel T Brown, read glowing citations in acknowledgement of their humanitarian acts describing them as "true philanthropists par excellence".

The citation in honour of the CEO of the Despite Group of Companies read:

"You have donated and contributed immensely in various spheres towards humanity in this country. You continue to make very handsome donations to the needy. You are a patron that FITNESS FIRST Club is very proud of. Patrons, Executives and Members of the club wish you God's indefatigable favour and blessings for your continuous good works to humanity."

FITNESS FIRST later donated an amount of GHC 10,000 as their widow's mite to the Despite Disaster Relief Fund.
