Boateng In Spain Move

Spanish side Getafe have slapped in a surprise offer for Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng, who is yet to complete his first full season in Germany. The 26-year-old, who plays with FC Cologne, seems to have settled very well with the Germany side after just six months at the club. But the arrival of Portuguese midfielder Maniche means there could be less playing time for the Ghanaian at the Bundesliga side next season. This has prompted an offer from Getafe who are seeking to strengthen their midfield after they struggled in that department last season. Cologne has now confirmed that there is an offer for the Ghanaian who must decide his future. I know the Spanish side Getafe are very interested in signing Derek Boateng, FC Cologne general manager Michael Meier said. It is up to Derek to decide if wants the deal or not. Boateng only joined the club in January from Israeli side Beitar Jerusalem. Even though he struggled in his early days at the club he has now settled as he is very well liked by his team-mates at the German club. The midfielder wants regular club action as the 2010 World Cup approaches. The lure of regular playing time at Getafe could convince Boateng to accept the move to the Spanish top-flight. Getafe barely escaped relegation last season.
