Man Defrauds Girlfriend

A 33-year-old marketer is in the grips of the law for defrauding his girlfriend.

Prince Daniel Ofori was said to have collected GH¢ 2, 500 from his girlfriend with the intent to secure her a visa and shop, but failed to do so.

Ofori pleaded not guilty when he appeared before the Amasaman District Court B and was granted bail in the sum of GH¢ 5,000 with two sureties.

The case has been adjourned to July 30, 2015.

The facts of the case as presented to the court by the Prosecutor, Inspector F.A Ansah, were that the complainant in the case is Regina Mensah, a hairdresser who resided at Kade in the Eastern Region while Ofori lived at Amasaman in Accra.

Inspector Ansah said the two were lovers but their relationship was short-lived as a result of mistrust.

He said in 2014, Ofori apologised to Mensah and pleaded for reconciliation.

In the process, Ofori told Mensah that he had won a United States (US) visa lottery and, therefore, needed a wife.

Inspector Ansah said Ofori collected GH¢1, 000 from Mensah under the pretext of processing her visa documents with it.

He also convinced Mensah of the need to relocate to Accra in order to get closer to him.

The prosecutor said Ofori collected another GH¢1, 500 from Mensah to rent a store for her.

Inspector Ansah said when Mensah visited the store owner, it was discovered that Ofori had not paid for the store but he refused to refund the money.

Mensah informed the police and Ofori was arrested.
