Media Is Responsible For Deepening NPP Woes - NDC Dept. Gen. Secretary

Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Lawson has blamed the deep cracks in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the electronic and the print media for spending airtime and space everyday to talk on the same topic about the party.

According to him, it is professionally wrong for radio stations and some newspapers to allot airtime and space respectively everyday to discuss and report on the same issue happening in the opposition NPP at the expense of other pressing issues in the country which need attention.

When his thoughts were sought about the happenings in the NPP, the deputy Chief Scribe of the ruling NDC told the host of Okay FM’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show, Kwame Nkrumah Tikese not to give his platform to everyone in NPP and other political parties to react to the happenings in the party.

He explained that it is time to close that chapter after those who mattered in the bickering of NPP have given their side of the situation; thus “once what the person said does not amount to slander, I think you should move on to address other issues in the country”.

“What is happening in NPP is very unfortunate and I can also blame some of us and the media for deepening their woes. Day in day out, some of the radio stations like Okay FM will call 20 people on this one problem in NPP; this is wrong because when you listen to one side and get response from the other side then you close the chapter of that problem, but you continue to fuel the problem by calling many people on the same problem,” he chided.

“…that is why you have producers to screen the type of people to interview on NPP problems, otherwise a thousand people will talk on the same issue. Professionally it is not right to spend the whole day to talk about one topic; you must allot time to every topic on your table for discussion,” he advised.
