Nyantakyi: "I Don't Condone Bribery"

Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi says he has been ostracized wrongly after admitting massive corruption in the game. Nyantakyi has come under barrage of criticisms after making suggestions that referees in the local league are entitled to receive bribes. His comments which was meant to urge referees to be fair in officiating, has ended undermining his position and his fitness for the post. But the owner of Premier League side Wa All Stars has been quick to rebuff the media attacks and insists his comments were taken out of context. The Football Association boss says reports of urging referees to take bribes to handle matches are well wide of the mark. "I admit I made those comments but said it in a context," Nyantakyi told Ghanasoccernet.com. "The idea of telling referees to take bribes is not meant to induce them in their judgement. "I said they could take the money but then use their conscience to handle the matches fairly so the next time no team could attempt bribing them again." "My thinking was just to serve as a deterrent to perpetrators and not encourage them to take the money and handle matches in a convenient way," he added. "We are committed to rid our system of bribery and corruption and we will not do anything to compromise the situation."
