Bi Ni Baa Gbo Le Chinnard Naa Torshie Addo Dies In NPP 'Tot' Parliamentary PrimariesWhat Fate Await Addison And Ursula

The Ga people, especially those from Ga Mashie, James Town, Bukom and their environs have an adage which goes “bi ni baa gbo le Chinnard”. It simply means ‘the child who will die will surely die.’

Dr. Chinnard was a very popular gynecologist in the 70s and 80s at the Korle bu hospital, who could solve almost every pregnancy related complications. So much was the trust the Ga community reposed in him that they believed that any child he could not save, was destined to die.

Hence, the coinage of the adage, that a child who will die will die, whether Dr. Chinnard intervened or not.

Last Saturday July 25, 2015, the Nana Addo “highly fancied” Irene Naa Toshie Addo, current MP for Tema West, Minority Chief Whip and former deputy Ambassador to the US in the erstwhile Kufuor administration, suffered a humiliating defeat in the now unenviable parliamentary primaries which are being held in ‘tots’ form constituency to constituency.

Carlos Ahenkora, who had scaled countless impediments put in his way by the defeated candidate on the one hand and various agents of Nana Addo, to prevent him from contesting gave her a spanking she will never forget when he polled 502 votes against a paltry 273 in their hotly-charged election which required the presence of more security officials than was needed during the 2012 general elections for the whole of Tema.

Tema West, among a dozen of other constituencies could not take part in the first of the piecemeal contest which the NPP is always quick to assign as ‘tots’ to any government action or programme, which was held on June 13th this year because of uncountable petitions.

First, the Affirmative Action Clause was invoked to keep Ahenkora from contesting Naa Torshie, but that failed because there was a country-wide rejection of that controversial dictum, which was seen as a way to protect and impose Nana Addo favorites as candidates.

Instead of allowing for free contest, the ‘Get Nana Addo elected at all costs’ strategists decided to ‘get Ahenkora out of the way at all costs’ and went on to use all means, both overt and covert to frustrate Carlose Ahenkora’s machinations included his not being a true NPP, his fake Legon certificate alongside false claims that he has been disqualified from contesting.

In the week that proceeded Saturday’s voting, the constituency was invaded by some party stalwarts and notable Nana Addo cronies like Kwaku Owusu Afriyie a.k.a. Sir John and Samuel Atta Akyea, the counsel who ‘LED’ Ken Kuranchie to face the Supreme Court.

They camped delegates and admonished them to vote overwhelmingly for Naa Torshie because ‘she will feature prominently in Nana’s victor plans. Indeed they did everything to see Naa Torshie win the victory and feature prominently in Nana’s victory plans.

Alas, the delegates had conscience and foresight, not to mention their reading form the ground that she will be a ‘rejected cassava’ to take to the market in 2016, If Nana and his folks were too blinded to see.

And that’s why they say is true that NPP MP that should die will die whether Nana Addo (Dr. Chinnard) conducts the elections or not.

The Ga people have another proverb for that, it means ‘when one hunchback is being buried other hunchbacks watch.’ Bet you can imagine the lessons they learn!
