Politically, NPP’s Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie don’t share the same ideology with President John Dramani Mahama – he has been his [Mahama’s] critic since the NPP tasted opposition but has revealed that – “President Mahama is very important to me”.

He said this after the attempt assassination of President Mahama failed resulting in the culprit being slapped with a 10-year jail term after confessing to the crime.

The court passed judgment after Charles Antwi had told the judge he carried the gun with the intent to kill President John Dramni Mahama.

And former former NPP General Secretary, affectionately called ‘Sir John’ said he would have blamed National Security if “he [President Mahama] was killed by the man [Charles Antwi]”

Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show Ghana Montie Sir John slammed National Security for the unfortunate failed assassination attempt – “They don’t do their work well. That shouldn’t have happened”

“The president's security team needs proper training. They only ‘pretend’ to be on top of issues when the president is around,” he added

To him – “National Security has failed the nation. They must bow down their heads in shame. If they can’t protect our number one gentleman, who else can they protect?”
